The Kyiv Prosecutor’s Office has opened proceedings over obstruction of the work of journalist Yurii Nikolov.

This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the press service of the Kyiv Prosecutor's Office.

Criminal proceedings have now been initiated on the fact of influencing the journalist to obstruct his professional duties and persecuting him in connection with his professional activities (Part 2 of Article 171 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

"Law enforcement agencies are currently taking measures to identify the persons involved.

For reference: any form of influence on a journalist in order to impede the performance of his or her professional duties or persecution of a journalist in connection with his or her legitimate professional activities is punishable by a fine of up to two hundred tax-free minimum incomes or arrest for up to six months, or restraint of liberty for up to four years," the prosecutor's office said.

Earlier, investigative journalist Yurii Nikolov said that on 14 January, unknown men broke into his apartment and tried to intimidate him. One of the anonymous Telegram channels "Card Office" (which is associated with the Office of the President) published a post with video and photos from the scene.

The head of the parliamentary committee on freedom of speech, Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, said that this constituted an obstruction of journalistic activity.

The Kyiv police reported that they were conducting an investigation into the threats to journalist Nikolov.
