European Commission’s recommendations on United News have been taken into account, state will stop supporting marathon after end of martial law - Tochytskyi

The Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications Mykola Tochytskyi commented on the European Commission's assessment of Ukrainian media reforms, as well as the EC's remarks regarding the state budget funding of the telethon.
This is stated on the website of the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications, Censor.NET reports.
The ministry noted that the European Commission in a report as part of the EU Enlargement Package positively assessed Ukraine's media reforms, in particular the Roadmap to support the restoration of a transparent and independent post-war media space.
"We have already begun the path of change: step by step, we are ensuring access to public information for every citizen and actively engaging the resources of international partners to support the restoration of Ukrainian media," Tochytskyi said.
The head of the department noted that the European Commission's recommendations regarding the United News telethon "have also been taken into account."
"The state plans to stop supporting the marathon after the end of martial law, focusing on the sustainable development of media infrastructure. After all, our goal is to create a space for truth and freedom of speech, and this work continues every day," Tochytskyi emphasized.
As a reminder, in its report, the European Commission criticized the United News telethon and stated that Ukraine should work to restore a pluralistic media landscape. The document contains a recommendation that calls for "the gradual restoration of a transparent and independent media landscape" without linking it to the end of martial law.
