European Union criticized "United News" telethon and called on Ukraine to restore work of broadcasters

Звіт Єврокомісії містить критику телемарафону

The European Commission has criticized the United News telethon and said that Ukraine should work to restore a pluralistic media landscape.

This is stated in the report of the European Commission, which analyzes the progress of the EU candidate countries, Censor.NET reports.

Thus, in the report, Brussels expressed concern about the financing of the telethon from the state budget and its objectivity.

"In 2023, the Ukrainian government invested public funds in a TV marathon project. It is worth reassessing whether this is the best platform for free discussion," the report says.

In addition, the European Commission also commented on the work of the state TV channel Rada. The document notes that the main purpose of this TV channel should be "to disseminate information about parliamentary activities, including the work of representatives of the parliamentary opposition."

The report contains a recommendation that calls for the "gradual restoration of a transparent and independent media landscape" without linking it to the end of martial law.

Earlier, the Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine Mykola Tochytskyi said that as long as there is a war in Ukraine, the United News marathon will continue to operate.
