Lavrov to attend G20 summit in Brazil instead of Putin

лавров поїде до Бразилії замість Путіна

At the G20 summit to be held in Rio de Janeiro, the Russian delegation will be headed by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, not Vladimir Putin, whom Brazil, as a member of the International Criminal Court, would be obliged to arrest.

According to Censor.NET, citing TASS, the change was announced by Russian Ambassador Marat Berdiyev.

On October 18, Putin said that he would not go to Brazil for the G20 summit, where he could be arrested under a warrant from the International Criminal Court.

Putin added that Russia would find someone who would "adequately represent the country's interests in Brazil."

Putin and the G20 summit in Brazil

Earlier, Reuters reported, citing two unnamed Brazilian officials, that Brazil had sent Putin a standard invitation to the G20 summit to be held on November 18-19 in Rio de Janeiro.

Ukraine's Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin called on the Brazilian authorities to arrest the Russian leader if he arrives.

To recap, on March 17, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and Russian Presidential Children's Ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova.

In September, Lula da Silva said that if Russian dictator Vladimir Putin comes to Brazil in 2024 for the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, the decision to arrest him will be made by the Brazilian judiciary, not the government.
