There are quite a few cases of low-quality ammunition arriving at front, investigation is ongoing, - MP Rakhmanin

MP Serhii Rakhmanin

There are many cases of low-quality ammunition being supplied to the Ukrainian military.

Serhii Rakhmanin, a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, said this in an interview with Radio NV, Censor.NET reports.

"The problem was discussed at a committee meeting last week. An internal investigation is underway, and an interdepartmental group has been set up to look into it. There are several such cases, but I would be wary of talking about a massive scale, let alone a global one, until we have all the information. It is a fact that this is not an isolated case. The extent to which the problem is deep and complex, whether it is the fault of the manufacturer, the structures that carried out the acceptance, or the military units themselves, is yet to be determined," Rakhmanin said.

He explained that mortar rounds can be fully or partially loaded, and if they are going to use partial charges, "the powder is poured out and stored as it is stored."

"Gunpowder is a very sensitive thing. Even a minimal temperature fluctuation is enough to make the gunpowder damp and then it cannot be used. Some soldiers, to be frank, do not even know that gunpowder requires appropriate storage conditions. Some commanders do not tell them about it," the MP added.

At the same time, Rakhmanin said that this does not relieve the responsibility of manufacturers, "who often provide low-quality products for the Armed Forces."

"Criticism of manufacturers is not always absolutely fair. And the defense of the military is not always absolutely fair. There are different cases. It is a certain fact that there are a lot of cases of low-quality ammunition. At least some of them were the fault of the manufacturers. An investigation is underway. I hope it will be thorough, conscientious, and of high quality. And based on the findings of this investigation, it will be possible to conclude what is wrong, what can be changed and how quickly," the MP concluded.
