If we want to stop "hot phase" of war, we need to take territories of Ukraine under its control into NATO - Zelenskyy
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said he is ready to consider ending the "hot phase of the war" if the territories of Ukraine under its control are brought "under the NATO umbrella."
The head of state said this in an interview with Sky News, Censor.NET reports.
Zelenskyy was asked to comment on media reports that one of US President-elect Donald Trump's plans to end the war may be for Kyiv to give up the Russian-occupied territories in exchange for Ukraine's accession to NATO.
Zelenskyy said that the government-controlled part of Ukraine could be offered NATO membership to end the "hot phase of the war." At the same time, he emphasized that the invitation to NATO should apply to all of Ukraine's internationally recognized borders.
"If we want to stop the hot phase of the war, we need to take the territory of Ukraine under our control under the NATO umbrella. We must do it quickly," the Head of State said.
The President added that the Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia could be returned diplomatically in the future.
As a reminder, Reuters reported, citing a letter from the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, that Ukraine had called on NATO countries to decide on its invitation to join the Alliance.
