There will be no Ukrainian Maidan scenario in Georgia - Prime Minister Kobakhidze

Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said against the backdrop of brutal suppression of protests that the country's authorities will not allow a repeat of the Ukrainian Euromaidan scenario.

According to Censor.NET, this was reported by SOVA.

Unlike Ukraine in 2013, Georgia is an independent state with strong institutions and, most importantly, experienced and wise people whose power no one can shake. The Maidan scenario cannot be realized in Georgia. Georgia is a state and the Georgian state will not allow it," Kobakhidze said.

The Georgian prime minister also said that the responsibility for the violence during the dispersal of the protests lies with "local agents", European politicians and bureaucrats.

According to Kobakhidze, the police, by dispersing the protest, were able to prevent a "constitutional coup in the country."

"The main responsibility for yesterday's violent rally also lies with the relevant European politicians and bureaucrats, as well as the local agents - the fifth column, which is represented by four political parties. It's just that radicals and their foreign patrons are always trying to come up with a pretext to try to split the country and Ukrainize Georgia," Kobakhidze said.

He added that for three years, first the candidate's status and then the topic of opening negotiations were allegedly used "as the main tool to damage the image of Georgia."

Protests in Georgia

As a reminder, on November 28, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said that his country refuses to negotiate EU membership until 2028, as well as any budget grants from the EU.

After that, rallies began in Tbilisi.

Georgian leader Salome Zurabishvili joined the protesters in front of the parliament building in Tbilisi.

The Georgian police brutally dispersed the protesters and made mass arrests.

Earlier, the European Union decided to suspend meetings with representatives of the Georgian government. This is a response to the anti-European actions and rhetoric of the ruling Georgian Dream party.

The EU Ambassador to Georgia, Pawel Gerczynski, said that under the current ruling party , Georgia will never become a member of the European Union.
