Germany to hand over sixth IRIS-T air defense system and Patriot launchers to Ukraine in December, - Scholz

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on IRIS-T air defense system for Ukraine

By the end of 2024, Ukraine will receive the sixth IRIS-T air defense system and Patriot launchers from Germany.

This was announced by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz at a press conference with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Censor.NET reports.

Scholz reminded that Germany has already provided Ukraine with five complete IRIS-T systems, three Patriot systems and more than 50 Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft systems.

According to him, support for Ukraine's air defense remains central to Germany.

The sixth IRIS-T system will be delivered in December, as well as Patriot launchers and Gepard anti-aircraft tanks. And also next year, in 2025, we will continue to transfer air defense systems, howitzers, reconnaissance drones, artillery, and six armed Sea King search helicopters," Scholz said.

He also emphasized that Russia's shelling of Ukraine's energy infrastructure is "unacceptable," and Germany has provided Ukraine with urgent winter support.

"Today, here in Kyiv, I am clearly addressing [Russian dictator Vladimir] Putin that Germany has great endurance, and we will stand by Ukraine as long as it takes," Scholz added.

Earlier it was reported that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will announce military aid to Ukraine worth 650 million euros, which is part of a large package worth 1.4 billion euros promised in October.
