Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin has signed a new secret strategy to counter drones.

According to Censor.NET, citing the European Parliament, this was reported by spokesman Pat Ryder.

The report notes that the capabilities of drones are growing and pose an increasing threat to the United States and its allies.

"Thanks to growing commercial innovation and increasingly sophisticated artificial intelligence, autonomy, and networking technologies, drones are fundamentally changing the way military and non-state actors achieve their goals," the Pentagon said.

The essence of the strategy

It reinforces the efforts the Pentagon is already making to combat this threat, they said.

According to Ryder, drones have the potential to pose both an immediate and ongoing threat to U.S. forces, facilities, and assets abroad and, increasingly, at home.

"The threats posed by these systems are changing the way we fight wars," he emphasized.

By using the strategy in conjunction with other major initiatives, the ministry is "focusing on a common understanding of the problem and a comprehensive approach to solving it."

The new strategy builds on other important Pentagon initiatives, including the creation of the Joint Office to Counter Small UAS, the establishment of the Fighter Command Integration Group, and the launch of the Replicator 2 initiative to protect against threats posed by small aircraft.

The strategy is classified, but an associated unclassified fact sheet reveals some of the efforts the Pentagon plans to undertake under it.

According to Ryder, the strategy allows the department to approach the threat posed by UAVs in a "comprehensive, cohesive, and holistic manner."
