SBI’s Hovorushchak sues "Slidstvo.Info" after investigation into his family’s property

SBI's Hovorushchak sues "Slidstvo.Info"

Oleksandr Hovorushchak, head of the first department of the Department for Pre-trial Investigation of Criminal Offences Committed by Law Enforcement Officers and Judges of the SBI's Main Investigation Department, has filed a lawsuit against "Slidstvo.Info" journalists who reported on the purchase of property by his family that could have cost UAH 35 million.

This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the investigators' website.

Thus, Hovorushchak filed a lawsuit against the editorial board of "Slidstvo.Info" and the author of the material, Yana Korniichuk, for the protection of honour, dignity and business reputation.

In the statement, he asked the journalists to refute and remove all published information related to him and his family.

"By disregarding these principles, not verifying the accuracy of the facts, using unverified sources without any evidence and without a single supporting fact, the editorial staff of 'Slidstvo.Info' deliberately created the public perception that I committed unacceptable, including corrupt, actions incompatible with the status of a law enforcement officer and head of a pre-trial investigation body," Hovorushchak said in his statement. All this, in his opinion, violates his rights to respect for dignity, honour and business reputation.

Hovorushchak is demanding UAH 40,000 in non-pecuniary damage from the "Slidstvo.Info" editorial board and journalist Yana Korniichuk.
