Two Russian agents who carried out a contacted terrorist attack in Berdychiv on 24 December 2024 were detained in Zhytomyr region.
This was reported by the press service of the SSU, Censor.NET informs.
"The perpetrator of the crime, who detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) near a local TCR, was detained within 2 hours of the crime. His accomplice, who had made the explosives on her own under instructions from a Russian curator, was exposed a few hours after the bomber," the statement said.
A 41-year-old displaced person from Mariupol, who had previously served a sentence for robbery, theft and drug offences, was detained. The explosive device was made by a 23-year-old drug addict from Berdychiv who came to the attention of the occupiers when she was looking for money for a "dose" on Telegram channels.
The woman made the explosive herself, put it in a food container and stuffed it with metal balls from bearings to enhance the damaging effect. She handed over the finished explosives to a repeat offender who arrived in Berdychiv to carry out an enemy mission.
After the meeting, the offender hid the explosive device in a bag and left it under the door of the TCR. After moving to a "safe" distance from the IED, the terrorist remotely detonated it using a mobile phone and a homemade electric detonator attached to the explosive.
"To report to his supervisor, the man had previously installed a mobile phone hidden in a box in front of the TCR building, which broadcast the explosion in real time. By coincidence, no one was injured in the incident," the SSU said.
The man was detained when he was returning to Kyiv by bus, where he planned to "lay low". The accomplice was detained at the place of residence of her partner in Berdychiv.
During the searches, law enforcement officers seized mobile phones and SIM cards with evidence of their crimes.
The defendants were served a notice of suspicion under Part 2 Art. 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (terrorist act committed by prior conspiracy by a group of people).
They are in custody. They face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
