EU provides Hungary with energy security guarantees - Szijjarto

The European Union has provided Hungary with energy security guarantees, which Budapest had previously requested.
This was stated by the Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, Censor.NET reports.
"Hungary has received the requested guarantees regarding the energy security of our country. The European Commission has committed itself to protecting gas and oil pipelines leading to EU member states," he said.
According to Szijjarto, the EU has made it clear that "the integrity of the energy infrastructure that meets the needs of EU member states is a matter of security for the entire European Union."
"The European Commission also seeks to obtain guarantees from Ukraine to maintain oil supplies to the EU," he concluded.
Earlier, Szijjártó said that Hungary would not block the European Union's sanctions against Russia if Ukraine and the EU promised not to interfere with gas and oil supplies to the country.
On January 27, 2025, EU foreign ministers at a Council meeting in Brussels decided to extend sanctions against Russia in response to its aggression against Ukraine.
