Bessent on assistance to Ukraine

The United States will continue to support Ukraine in exchange for an agreement on rare earth metals mining.

This was stated by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday, February 12, Suspilne reports, Censor.NET informs.

According to him, US President Donald Trump intends to do everything possible to put an end to Russia's war against Ukraine.

Bessent emphasized that "the United States is committed to Ukraine's independence, and American citizens need to know why the United States is interfering in Ukraine's affairs."

"President Trump has a plan to end this war, and we would like to conclude an economic cooperation agreement. And in exchange for this agreement, the United States will continue to provide material support to Ukraine and its people. That's what we have here. And we think that this will send a strong signal to the American people that the money coming to Ukraine means that we have common values, that we have common security, and we hope to increase our common economic commitments," the US Treasury Secretary said.

He also added that such an agreement would send a strong signal to the Russian leadership about the US commitment to Ukraine.

Earlier, Ukraine received the first draft of a partnership agreement from the United States.

As reported, Trump recently said that he wants to sign a $500 million deal with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on access to rare earth resources and natural gas in Ukraine in exchange for security guarantees in any potential peaceful settlement.
