EU will not lift sanctions against Russia, even if US does - Dombrovskis

The European Union will continue its sanctions policy against Russia regardless of possible decisions by the administration of US President Donald Trump.

This was stated by European Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis before a meeting of the Economic and Financial Affairs Council in Brussels, Censor.NET reports.

Answering journalists' questions about a possible revision of the sanctions policy in case of a change in the US policy, Dombrovskis stressed that the EU would act independently from Washington.

"Given the policy of the new US administration, the EU has to take its own security into its own hands, and this also applies to sanctions policy. You know that we are currently working on the 16th package," he said.

As a reminder, on Saturday, 15 February, the "Group of Seven" (G7) countries agreed to link further sanctions against Russia to good faith negotiations by Moscow.
