France is convinced that Trump will support European peacekeepers in Ukraine

There are positive signals from some leaders regarding peacekeepers in Ukraine

France is convinced that the United States will support European peacekeeping forces in Ukraine after a ceasefire agreement is reached.

This was stated by French Finance Minister Eric Lombard in an interview with Bloomberg Television, Censor.NET reports with reference to UP.

"We want this truce to be guaranteed by European troops with American support. President Trump said he would agree to this," the statement said.

According to him, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and other European countries are ready to send troops to guarantee a truce.

"If we want the ceasefire to be respected, we need the support of the United States. I believe the Americans have agreed to do that," Lombard said.

Earlier this week, Lombard and French President Emmanuel Macron visited Washington to discuss Ukraine and trade with their American counterparts, President Donald Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant.

Lombard is taking part in a meeting of finance ministers from leading countries, despite the fact that the United States and Argentina decided to skip the event after Trump publicly sparred with his South African counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa over national land laws, equality policies, and the war in the Gaza Strip.

French officials said that Lombard aims to reaffirm his country's commitment to multilateralism and demonstrate European unity amid Trump's attack on the world order.

Peacekeeping forces in Ukraine

Earlier, it was reported that French President Emmanuel Macron would discuss with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk the deployment of peacekeeping forces in Ukraine if an agreement is reached to end the current phase of the war between Russia and Ukraine.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk denied that Polish troops would be sent to Ukraine after the ceasefire.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas assessed the possibility of sending a European peacekeeping mission to Ukraine.

Italian Defense Minister Guido Crozetto expressed his readiness to support a peacekeeping mission to Ukraine if peace is achieved.

In turn, Italian Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani called these discussions "premature."

Germany, together with its partners, will consider the possible deployment of peacekeepers in Ukraine as part of "security guarantees" only after the conditions are created, namely a ceasefire with Russia.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has stated that several countries are currently considering participation in a potential contingent of Western allies in Ukraine. However, specific plans for the deployment of foreign troops are under discussion.
