Our troops are withdrawing from Kursk region to territory of Ukraine. There are significant losses. Enemy infantry crossed the border in two areas - Butusov

There is no encirclement of our troops in the Kursk region. The enemy continues to have the initiative, superiority in infantry, aircraft and drones, and continues its offensive. Our troops are gradually withdrawing to the territory of Ukraine.
Censor.NET editor-in-chief Yurii Butusov wrote about this on Facebook, commenting on the situation in Kursk region as of 02.00 on 16 March 2025.
According to him, the losses in the battles of recent days and during the retreat, in particular due to poor organisation, are unfortunately significant. The enemy is also suffering significant losses as it continues to launch frontal attacks.
"The enemy is trying to break through the defences on the flanks of the bridgehead, but all these attacks are being repelled. The enemy entered the territory of Ukraine in two areas with several small groups of infantry to cover the flanks of our group, but the Russian advance was stopped near the border," Butusov said.
He also notes that the key position for controlling the border strip in this area is a ridge of heights along the border in the Russian Federation. There are currently no signs of an offensive on Sumy. However, the enemy will try to seize control of the border strip along the border.
"There must be responsibility for what happened. I have gathered a lot of information about who was in charge, what factors influenced and were not taken into account in time, who made wrong decisions in Kyiv and on the ground. Now I am collecting all the known information about the losses. I am preparing a public investigation for the public and a closed post-action analysis for our military," Butusov summarises.
Earlier, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the Kursk operation had achieved its main goal of pulling back a significant part of Russian troops from the Pokrovske and Kharkiv directions. Later, the head of state added that the operation in the Kursk region continues. There is no encirclement of our troops.
