Hungary removes people from sanctions list in Europe - Zelenskyy

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that Hungary is removing people from the sanctions list in Europe.
He said this at a meeting with teachers and students of Finnish universities,Interfax-Ukraine reports, Censor.NET informs.
"It seems to me that today we should talk not about quantity, but about quality - to extend sanctions packages (against Russia - ed. ), but (to talk - ed.) about the quality of the extension. Because there is a circumvention of sanctions, there is a list of people who are removed from the sanctions list. Either they are removed in Europe, as Hungary is doing, or they are removed in the United States. But now we very much believe that President Trump will impose even stronger personal sanctions," the head of state said.
Speaking about sanctions in the banking sector, Zelenskyy noted that there are banks that circumvent sanctions and countries and companies that help Russia circumvent sanctions.
"If we are talking about the shadow fleet, we are talking about hundreds of ships that circumvent sanctions, because sanctions have been imposed only on a separate list of the shadow fleet. Therefore, I would very much like and believe that America will demonstrate serious steps in terms of sanctions policy in terms of quality, not just quantity," the President said.
The European Union has agreed to extend sanctions against Russians, including billionaire Mikhail Fridman, despite attempts by Hungary and Luxembourg to have him removed from the list.
Earlier, the media reported that in January, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio called Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó and urged him not to block the extension of EU sanctions against Russia.
