Latvian Saeima MPs have backed reallocating five million euros for the purchase of UAVs to support Ukraine in 2025.
The LETA news agency reported this, as cited by Delfi, Censor.NET says.
Additional €5m for UAVs
The plan is to redirect €5 million from the Latvian Foreign Ministry’s budget programme for this year, earmarked for Latvia’s contribution to the European Peace Facility.
The funds are being reallocated to Latvia’s Defence Ministry to procure uncrewed systems to support Ukraine and to help develop Latvia’s dual-use technology industry.
Latvia’s Foreign Ministry said the reallocation is possible because Hungary has blocked a decision on providing military support to Ukraine through the European Peace Facility.
As a result, Latvia’s planned contributions to the facility for 2025 were not used in full, and the unused amount is being reallocated within the funds available in the state budget.
