Terrorist attack in Bucha: 21-year-old local resident charged. PHOTOS

A 21-year-old resident of Bucha has been charged with committing a terrorist act (Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

This was reported by Censor.NET, citing the press centre of the Office of the Prosecutor General.

What has the investigation established?

As noted, in March 2026, he was recruited via an online game by representatives of the Russian special services. He subsequently maintained contact with his handler via a messaging app, where he received instructions and funds to prepare the explosions.

Acting on instructions, the suspect purchased the necessary components, manufactured two homemade explosive devices and prepared them for remote detonation.

Details

On 23 March, one of the devices was detonated near a residential building in Bucha. The explosion damaged the building’s façade, windows and parked cars.

"The second device detonated after law enforcement officers arrived at the scene. The explosion injured law enforcement officers and caused further damage," the statement said.

According to the investigation, the suspect’s actions were aimed at intimidating the population and destabilising the situation, which are characteristic features of a terrorist act.

  • A pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and all those involved, including the organisers and coordinators of the crime, are being identified. The sanction of the article provides for up to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
  • Synthetic narcotic substances were also found during a search of the suspect’s premises. The issue of additional legal classification regarding their possession is being considered.
  • A motion has been filed with the court to impose a preventive measure in the form of detention.
