Relations between Ukraine and Georgia: Zelenskyy made a statement

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated Georgia on Independence Day and announced the readiness to build mutually beneficial relations between the countries.

"Our nations are united by long-standing ties and a common understanding of the value of freedom and dignity. I wish Georgia peace, unity, strength, and prosperity. We count on mutually beneficial relations, and Ukraine is ready to move in this direction," he noted.

Background

Earlier this year, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze on the sidelines of an international summit in Yerevan. Despite the complex political context, the parties announced their readiness to maintain a dialogue.
At the same time, in 2024, a number of representatives of the ruling party of Georgia, in particular Kobakhidze, were included in the sanctions lists of Ukraine for a period of 10 years.
The Georgian side, after contacts with the Ukrainian leadership, declares its striving for a gradual normalization of relations between the states.
