Relations with Russia

Pashinyan stated that the tensions between Armenia and Russia are artificial.

"Relations with the Russian Federation have an institutional foundation and are based on mutual respect. Certain forces operating in Armenia are attempting to create tension in Armenian-Russian relations. This tension does not arise for the simple reason that we have a very close relationship with the President of the Russian Federation," said the Prime Minister of Armenia.

The Impact of the Armenian Elections on the Region

"I believe that democracy always promotes regional cooperation, and that democracy is a tool for regional peace," Pashinyan said in a conversation with journalists after the June 7 election, responding to a question about how these elections would affect the region.

Relations with other countries

"I am confident in our region's peaceful future because, fortunately, we have peace with Azerbaijan. We have very strong ties with Georgia. I look forward to establishing diplomatic relations with Turkey. I am confident that rail and road connections with Turkey will also open in the near future," said the head of the Armenian government.

Parliamentary Elections in Armenia

  • As a reminder, on Sunday, June 7, Armenian citizens will vote in parliamentary elections that will determine whether Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan can secure a mandate to radically reorient the country toward the EU amid escalating tensions in relations with Russia.
  • The main battle is unfolding between Pashinyan’s ruling party, "Civil Contract," which is campaigning on a platform of European integration, and opposition forces that are funded and backed by Moscow.
  • One day before the elections in Armenia, six candidates from the pro-Russian "Strong Armenia" bloc were detained. They were charged as part of an investigation into alleged money laundering.
