Zelenskyy held talks with Trump: they agreed to meet in New York
On Sunday, 20 September, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump.
The head of state announced this on social media, according to Censor.NET.
Meeting in New York
"I have just spoken with President Trump. It was an important conversation, and we managed to discuss many issues. We have agreed to meet in New York, and this meeting could bring about significant change. There is diplomatic momentum," said Zelenskyy.
Peace track
The President of Ukraine thanked Trump for the visit to Kyiv by his special representatives – Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
"We went through the key details thoroughly, and the lads saw the situation in Ukraine for themselves. The peace track is the number one priority," emphasised the head of state.
Security
"There are ideas regarding de-escalation measures and fundamental security issues – energy, food security and the protection of human life. We are working together with the American team and are ready to take some truly significant steps," Zelenskyy stated.
Graham’s sanctions bill
Finally, he thanked the US President for signing the late Senator Lindsey Graham’s bill to tighten sanctions against Russia.
"We all agree: there must be peace," the Ukrainian leader added.
What led up to this
Earlier, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that teams from Ukraine and the US are currently working on the possibility of a meeting between Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
