European Commission prepares rule changes for future EU members, including Ukraine

The European Commission's College of Commissioners has adopted a package of proposals for policy changes ahead of the EU's next enlargement, which will enable the bloc to admit new members, including Ukraine.
European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos announced this, Censor.NET reports, citing European Pravda.
What is known?
"The EU can accommodate more members. But there are areas where we see challenges that we need to address," Kos explained.
The documents primarily address how the EU's existing treaty framework and future accession treaties can be used to prepare the EU for a larger membership.
The commissioner identified one area in which an enlarged EU would face challenges: the rule of law and the EU's fundamental values, "where we propose stronger measures to prevent backsliding, including funding cuts or restrictions on voting rights."
"Secondly, we propose considering targeted mechanisms for integrating Ukraine's agricultural sector," Kos added.
According to the commissioner, the European Commission will also propose "ways to make our institutions leaner and able to make decisions more quickly."
The package also emphasizes the gradual integration of candidate countries into the EU.
