Hungary’s Foreign Ministry has called Ukraine’s accession to EU by 2030 unrealistic

Ukraine's accession to the European Union by 2030 is unrealistic, and negotiations should proceed according to standard procedures without any acceleration.
Hungary's Foreign Minister Anita Orbán made this statement during a visit to Vilnius, according to LRT.
Hungary opposes Ukraine's accelerated accession to the EU
"We do not consider this realistic. We strongly support a merit-based process, and, in my opinion, we are in agreement with Lithuania on this issue," the Hungarian minister said.
She emphasized that all candidate countries must undergo the same EU accession process. In her view, there should be no exceptions or special conditions for Ukraine.
"Every country must go through the same process that we went through. We also do not support any fast-track accession," Orban emphasized.
At the same time, she noted Ukraine’s progress in implementing reforms. According to the minister, our country has already opened four of the six negotiation tracks.
Orbán attributed this progress, in particular, to the improvement in relations between Ukraine and Hungary. Among the key factors, she cited the agreement on the protection of the rights of the Hungarian national minority in Transcarpathia.
Lithuania Calls for Setting a Date for Ukraine's Accession
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys expressed a more optimistic view regarding the timeline for Ukraine's European integration.
He believes that the European Union could set a specific date for accession.
"We are more optimistic about the timeline. We believe that a target date can and should be set," Budris said.
According to him, it is theoretically possible to complete all the necessary procedures by 2030. To achieve this, Ukraine must implement reforms quickly, and the European Union must promptly carry out the necessary stages of the negotiation process.
- Earlier, the European Commission published a report on Ukraine’s progress toward EU membership. The document noted significant reform achievements despite the full-scale war, as well as the fulfillment of the conditions for opening three negotiation clusters.
