Senator Blumenthal will table bill in Congress to restore aid to Ukraine and tighten sanctions against Russia

Blumenthal to table a bill on aid to Ukraine

Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal has stated that military aid to Ukraine must be resumed and sanctions against Russia must be tightened. He plans to table a bill to this effect before the US Congress as soon as possible.

He wrote about this on social media platform X, according to Censor.NET.

Pro-Ukrainian sentiment

According to Blumenthal, there has been a strong pro-Ukrainian sentiment following the US elections.

"We must immediately demand that Trump reinstate the suspended sanctions against Russia, put an end to his appalling deal on diesel fuel, provide military aid – particularly in the field of air defence – and take further measures to demonstrate the necessary support to force Putin to the negotiating table for a genuine peace," the senator said.

"I will table a bill to capitalise on this moment – a critically important turning point, when convincing election victories should convince Putin that America supports Ukraine," said Blumenthal.

Peace talks

Furthermore, he emphasised that the US must bring in other negotiators for talks with Russia.

"US President Donald Trump needs new negotiators – not subservient puppets who call this brutal murderer a ‘humanitarian’," added Blumenthal.

The Starlink issue

The senator also believes that Congress should exercise oversight over Starlink and Starshield in the public interest, as this is of crucial importance to Ukraine and to US national security.

"Neither our national defence nor our allies should be dependent on the unpredictable whims of a self-centred billionaire," he emphasised.

Background

It was previously reported that the US Democratic Party plans to provide more active support for Ukraine. In particular, a new military aid package worth around $15 billion is under discussion, as well as tougher sanctions against Russia.
