On May 15, more than 60 heads of diplomatic missions of foreign states and international organizations accredited in Ukraine visited the site where a Russian missile hit a nine-story residential building in Kyiv’s Darnytskyi District. The participants honored the memory of those killed with a minute of silence.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported this, Censor.NET says.
What is known
At a briefing for the diplomatic corps, Andrii Danyk, head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU), informed the participants about the consequences of the Russian strike on the residential building, carried out with a Kh-101 missile. He recalled that 24 people were killed in the strike, including three children. Another 48 people were injured.
Foreign diplomats were also shown how the search-and-rescue operation, which lasted more than 28 hours, was carried out.
Pressure on Russia
For his part, Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister Yevhen Perebyinis stressed that the attack was yet another deliberate Russian strike on civilians and proof that the aggressor country has no desire to end this bloody war. According to him, the only way to force Russia to stop is to increase international pressure and raise the cost of aggression.
He called on foreign partners to firmly condemn this crime, step up sanctions pressure on Russia, and provide Ukraine with additional air defense systems to protect civilians and prevent similar tragedies in the future. He also stressed the need to hold everyone involved in Russia’s crimes against the Ukrainian people accountable.
