New camp for Russian prisoners of war, "Center-5", has been opened in Ukraine. VIDEO

A new camp for Russian prisoners of war, "Centre-5", has been opened in Ukraine. It provides conditions for holding prisoners of war with injuries, including amputees, bedridden prisoners of war, prisoners of war with various diseases, etc.

This was reported by the press service of the project of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War "Want to Live", Censor.NET informs.

"Since the number of Russians who surrender to the Ukrainian Armed Forces every month far exceeds the number of those returned by Russia as part of exchanges, the places of detention of prisoners of war in Ukraine are filling up very quickly," the statement said.

It is noted that the conditions in "Centre-5" meet all the requirements of international humanitarian law: separate beds, three hot meals a day, hot water showers, access to medical care.

What are the conditions in the camp?

The peculiarity of "Centre-5" is that the camp has created conditions for holding prisoners of war with injuries: amputees, bedridden, prisoners of war with various diseases, etc.

"There are a lot of such Russian prisoners of war in Ukraine, and the Russian side deliberately refuses to return the disabled and sick. For 2.5 years now, Russia has refused to comply with the requirements of the Geneva Conventions and has been blocking the creation of mixed medical commissions for the repatriation of the wounded and sick," the Coordination Centre's project notes.

"Ukraine maintains the maximum possible openness in the treatment of prisoners of war and adheres to its obligations under the Geneva Conventions. Various international observers and the media can visit "Centre-5" and other places where Russian prisoners are held," the statement said.

The project added that Ukraine constantly demands that the Russian side to mirror the treatment of Ukrainian prisoners and fulfil its obligations under the Geneva Conventions.

Unfortunately, the press service stressed, Russia continues to use prisoners as an instrument of pressure and bargaining, ignoring not only Ukraine's humanitarian initiatives but also basic norms of morality and humanity.
