In the Podil district of Kyiv, a police officer recently, whilst carrying out public awareness activities, swore at a young man with a reservation and shoved him into a TCR minibus. The police have already launched an internal investigation.

A video circulating on social media captures the moment a man is detained near a minibus belonging to the regional recruitment centre. The footage initially shows the interior of the vehicle, with a soldier in camouflage uniform sitting next to the detainee — the footage is filmed from inside the vehicle. The camera then pans to the street outside the minibus’s open doors, where a uniformed police officer is standing with his back to the camera, wearing a handheld radio on his belt and holding a smartphone in his pocket. The voices of those involved in the altercation can be heard on the recording — the tone of the conversation between the police officer and the detainee is tense. The video is accompanied by a watermark from the Telegram channel that shared it.
What happened
Law enforcement officials stated that the video was discovered whilst monitoring social media. They subsequently established that the incident took place a few days ago in the Podilskyi district.
It is noted that the video shows "inappropriate and disrespectful behaviour by a police officer towards a member of the public". The police officer then pushes the man into a TCR minibus, despite the man’s claims that he had a reservation. The video was filmed using a camera built into the man’s glasses.
Police response
- Following the incident, the capital’s police leadership has launched an internal investigation to establish all the circumstances of the incident and assess the officer’s conduct.
"Any instances of inappropriate or disrespectful behaviour by officers are unacceptable and do not comply with the principles of professional police conduct," the Kyiv police stated.
However, there is currently no information regarding specific disciplinary action against the police officer or his superiors — a decision on accountability may be taken following the results of an internal investigation.
