DIU’s ’Tymur’s special unit’ claimed that SSU had ’abducted’ one of their soldiers ’in broad daylight’ and opened fire on unarmed individuals (updated)

The head of the ‘Tymur’ special unit of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, which includes the ‘Russian Volunteer Corps’, has claimed that a combat commander was abducted and that shots were fired by SSU officers during a clash that took place in Kyiv on 2 September.

He said this in a video provided to Censor.NET.

The Main Intelligence Directorate’s version

The head of the DIU’s special unit stated that SSU officers "abducted" the DIU combat commander "in broad daylight" and held him without formal charges.

The commander personally negotiated with the commander of "Alpha" regarding the conduct of procedural actions in accordance with the law, and the parties reached an agreement. However, after that, SSU officers—not those from "Alpha"—began detaining unarmed military intelligence officers and opened fire on them.

The special forces unit believes that the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and the Office of the Prosecutor General (OPG) will conduct a thorough investigation of this case from start to finish.

The SSU’s version

It should be noted that the SSU has put forward a different version of events. They stated that they were "carrying out urgent investigative measures in a case concerning a terrorist attack organised by the Russian special services". According to the SSU, a group of individuals carried out an armed attack on the operational-investigative team, attempted to obstruct the investigative measures and blocked the road with their vehicles. The ‘Alpha’ special forces unit was called in to quell the attack, and law enforcement officers used firearms to suppress the armed resistance. The SSU reported that there were casualties amongst those who offered resistance.

Shootout between the SSU and the DIU in Kyiv

Stepan Kaplunov, deputy commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps, was abducted a few days ago near his home. The Russian Volunteer Corps stated that they still do not know where he is.
They added that they are closely monitoring everything that is happening.
Meanwhile, the founder and commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps, Denis Kapustin, told Suspilne that he did not approve of Fortuna’s decision to make the information public.

news emerged of a shooting in Kyiv.
The media reported that this involved a conflict between the Main Intelligence Directorate (DIU) and the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU), and that it was somehow linked to Kaplunov’s disappearance.
The SSU stated that, together with the DIU, they had foiled a terrorist attack that the Russian FSB was planning against one of the leaders of the Russian opposition political national movement, who had arrived in Ukraine.
The Security Service stated that SSU operatives had come under armed attack whilst conducting investigative operations in the case concerning the FSB terrorist attack.
Subsequently, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the exchange of fire between separate units of the SSU and the DIU, which took place on 2 September in Kyiv.
