Russian army probably uses Zircon missiles due to lack of other missile types - Air Force

Currently, the research and expert centre is establishing whether the Russian army actually used Zircon during recent attacks on Ukraine

According to Censor.NET, this was stated by the spokesperson for the Air Force of Ukraine, Illia Yevlash, on the air of Radio Liberty ("Svoboda.Ranok").

He noted that Russia's alleged use of "Zircon" hypersonic missiles could mean that it has a shortage of other types of missiles, and that this is also a way for the Russian army to test Ukraine's air defence system.

"The fact that they are using them most likely indicates that they already have a shortage of weapons, otherwise they would not use them. In general, this type of missile is anti-ship, and it is used only in certain cases, using different launchers, such as 'Bastion' and 'Bal'. However, we can say that if they had, for example, enough of another type of missile - 'Kalibr', 'Iskander', other missiles - they would have used them... This is a rather sophisticated missile, quite expensive, quite powerful... It can also be a kind of experiment - to test our air defence system, where, what and how it is protected, what is covered, in order to use it in the future when planning their next air attacks," says Yevlash.

As a reminder, on the morning of 25 March, enemy forces launched missiles at Kyiv. According to the Air Force, two ballistic missiles were destroyed. According to preliminary data, Russia attacked Kyiv with Zircon hypersonic missiles.
