Ukraine will become 33rd or 34th NATO member in future - Rutte

Генеральний секретар НАТО Марк Рютте

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that Ukraine will join the Alliance "one day" in the future as its 33rd or 34th member. However, the timing has not yet been determined.

He said this upon arriving at a meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels on Thursday, Censor.NET reports citing "European Pravda".

At the same time, Rutte refrained from answering the question whether NATO countries have become more favorable to the proposal to invite Ukraine to NATO.

At the moment, it looks like Ukraine will be the 33rd member. But maybe someone else will come out ahead of them. But Ukraine will be a member of NATO in the future. This is what we have decided in Washington. So the question now is about the chronology," the NATO Secretary General emphasized.

He noted that the allies are currently focused on efforts to build a bridge to Ukraine's membership.

"So if there is a specific question "When?", I cannot answer it now, at this moment. But we are working on all of these areas so that they can actually become a NATO member one day," Rutte added.

As a reminder, the day before, Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented the "Victory Plan" of Ukraine in the Verkhovna Rada. In general, the document released by the head of state includes 5 sections. The first point concerns the invitation of Ukraine to NATO before the end of the war.
