Ukraine can use ATACMS missiles to hit targets in Russia’s Kursk region - White House

США дозволили Україні бити ATACMS по цілях у Курській області РФ

The United States has changed its guidelines for Ukraine and allowed the Armed Forces of Ukraine to use American ATACMS ballistic missiles to hit targets in the Kursk region of Russia.

According to Censor.NET, this was stated by White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby.

They (Ukrainians - ed.) can use ATACMS to defend themselves in case of immediate need, and now, clearly, that is happening in and around Kursk. We've changed the guidance and given them instructions that they can use them [ATACMS missiles] to engage these types of targets," Kirby stressed.

Strikes on Russia

On the night of 25 November 2024, units of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, together with other components of the Defence Forces, attacked a number of important occupiers' facilities, in particular in the Bryansk, Kaluga and Kursk regions of Russia.

Authorization for strikes on Russian territory

As a reminder, current US President Joe Biden has authorized Ukraine to launch long-range ATACMS missiles at Russian territory.

CNN noted that Biden's authorization to fire long-range missiles at Russia would complicate Trump's plans for a truce.

Axios writes that Biden's lifting of restrictions on long-range strikes applies only to the Kursk region of Russia.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that Ukraine's use of long-range ATACMS missiles to attack Russian territory would mean "direct participation of the United States and its satellites in hostilities against Russia."

On 19 November, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that the United States had authorised Ukraine to strike Russian territory with ATACMS ballistic missiles. However, he refused to confirm or deny the attack on the Bryansk region of Russia.
