"Borders cannot be redrawn by force": Congressmen presented draft resolution on non-recognition of Russian annexation of Ukrainian territories

Congressmen introduce a resolution not recognising Russia’s annexation of Ukraine’s territories

US Congressmen Brian Fitzpatrick, Mike Turner (Republican Party) and Gerry Connolly (Democratic Party) have introduced a draft resolution on non-recognition of Russia's annexation of Ukraine's sovereign territories.

This was announced on social media platform X by Republican member of the US House of Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick, Censor.NET reports.

"Alongside NATO Parliamentary Assembly delegation leads, Mike Turner and Gerry Connolly, I introduced the Non-Recognition Resolution—a defining statement of U.S. policy against Putin’s illegal war," Fitzpatrick said.

What the resolution says:

  • Document rejects any and all Russian claims over sovereign Ukrainian territory—including Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson;
  • Resolution ensures no U.S. policy or action will imply recognition of Russia’s illegal occupations;
  • Resolution also cements America’s unwavering commitment to Ukraine’s independence, territorial integrity, and international law.

"Just as we refused to recognize the Soviet annexation of the Baltic states, we must never legitimize Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. Borders cannot be redrawn by force. Ukraine’s sovereignty is inviolable, its independence absolute, and any attempt to recognize Russia’s claims is a betrayal of international law and democratic values," Fitzpatrick commented on the document.

Earlier, Republican Fitzpatrick said that there are enough votes in Congress to prevent Russian dictator Vladimir Putin from being rewarded for his illegal aggression.

Earlier, the media reported that the administration of US President Donald Trump is considering the possibility of officially recognising Crimea as part of Russia as part of an agreement to end the war in Ukraine.
