Today, on 13 April 2025, in the morning, Russian troops attacked the center of Sumy with ballistic missiles. The buildings of Sumy State University were destroyed, and there are many casualties and injuries.
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said this on Telegram, Censor.NET reports.
"A cynical and cruel attack by the Russians on the centre of Sumy. On a holiday, on Sunday, the enemy targeted civilian objects with missiles, where many people were nearby. There were many dead and wounded. My sincere condolences to the families," he wrote.
The buildings of Sumy State University and houses were destroyed.
"Russian terrorists will be held accountable for their crimes. The world must act. More air defence, more weapons, more sanctions against Russia will save the lives of thousands of civilians," Shmyhal stressed.
The Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, also reported that the building of the regional Human Rights Protection Centre, our office, was also hit and completely destroyed.
"Many people were killed and injured. The exact number is being established. This is cynicism of the highest level. This is the deliberate destruction of civilians - on a day off, when people go out, when they are least protected. Our condolences to the family. Eternal memory..." the ombudsman wrote.
As a reminder, a rocket attack on the center of Sumy on 13 April 2025 killed 21 people and injured 83, including 7 children.
