Kyiv bids farewell to 12-year-old Liubava and 17-year-old Vira Yakovlieva, who were killed in Russia’s massive strike on the capital on 14 May.

Vira and Liubava were the daughters of fallen soldier Yevhen Yakovliev (Ryzhyi), who was killed while carrying out a combat mission three years ago.

Liubava’s body was found first, whilst her sister was searched for under the rubble.

Dozens of students and school administrators attended the farewell ceremony for the girls.

Many military personnel also attended – they were comrades-in-arms of the girls’ fallen father.

It is known that a Russian missile destroyed a residential building in the Darnytskyi district of the capital, where the late defender of Ukraine, Yevhen Yakovlev, known by the call sign Ryzhyi, had previously lived. Two of his daughters were killed as a result of the Russian attack.

  • As a reminder, on the night of 14 May, Russian occupiers launched a massive attack on Kyiv using missiles and drones. Twenty-four people are known to have been killed. Dozens were injured.
  • At least 20 people are missing.
