The Bulgarian Navy has detected three drones off the coast of the country’s resort towns and in the waters of the Black Sea.
This was reported by the Bulgarian Ministry of Defence, according to Censor.NET.
One of the drones was found on the Black Sea coast near the city of Varna. It contained no explosives, and the military took it to the naval base in Varna.
A second drone was detected in the waters near the town of Pomorie and was destroyed on the spot. Military personnel destroyed it on the spot at sea.
The third drone was in the waters of the Black Sea near Pasha Dere beach, close to Varna. It was also blown up at sea.
In addition, on the evening of 25 August, the wing of a military drone without any munitions was found in the water near the resort of Kamchia. The part was taken to a military base in Varna for examination.
The Bulgarian Ministry of Defence has not yet specified the country of origin of the drones.
What happened beforehand
- It was previously reported that on Saturday, 8 August, a drone exploded in Bulgaria near the border with Romania. The Bulgarian Ministry of Defence states that this UAV may have been Ukrainian.
- The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the Ukrainian Defence Forces had deliberately not directed any assets towards Bulgaria.
- The Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Ukrainian ambassador over the incident involving the detonation of a suspected Ukrainian UAV near the compressor station of the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline.
