Zelenskyy publishes second interrogation of captured Chinese national. VIDEO
The Security Service of Ukraine is carrying out procedural actions with Chinese nationals who were taken prisoner by Ukrainian defenders in the Donetsk region.
This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his Telegram channel, Censor.NET reports.
"We continue to clarify all the circumstances of the involvement of Chinese nationals in the Russian occupation contingent... All available information regarding the participation of other such individuals in Russia’s actions against Ukraine is also being examined," he said.
The Head of State noted that these are not isolated incidents but part of a systematic Russian effort, including activities carried out on the territory of China and under its jurisdiction, aimed at recruiting Chinese citizens for the war.
"Everything necessary must be done to ensure that Russia has no further opportunities to prolong or expand this war," he added.
What the prisoner said
"Here in Ukraine, I am fed better than in Russia. We are treated better. And it is safer here," Chang Renbo said in a translation of his words.
When asked whether he wanted to be exchanged, the Chinese citizen said he did not want to return to Russia. When asked to choose between staying in Ukraine or returning to China, he said he wanted to return to China.
According to the interrogation, the prisoner worked as a lifeguard in his home country. According to him, he sent a video to his parents only once, but did not tell them that he was in Russia and had become a soldier so that they would not worry.
Chinese nationals captured by the Ukrainian Armed Forces
Earlier, it was reported that Ukrainian defenders captured two Chinese nationals in the Donetsk region. They fought as part of the Russian army.
According to the president, the Ukrainian Armed Forces engaged in a battle with six Chinese in the Donetsk region near the settlements of Tarasivka and Bilohorivka, after which two were taken prisoner.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine summoned the Charge d'Affaires of China because of the participation of Chinese citizens in Russia's war against Ukraine on the side of Russia.
US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said that the US is aware that Ukraine has captured two Chinese citizens who fought on the side of Russia.
