Hungary had no right to negotiate with Russia on prisoners without Ukraine’s knowledge - Lubinets

Hungary had no right to hold any negotiations with Russia on a prisoner exchange without Ukraine’s knowledge. Such actions by Budapest are a violation of international law.
This was stated by the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets during a telethon, informs Censor.NЕТ referring to ZN.ua.
"We interpret Hungary's actions as a violation of international humanitarian law, a violation of the rights of prisoners of war. They had no authority to conduct any negotiations directly with the Russian Federation without informing the Ukrainian side," he emphasized.
Lubinets added that the only body authorized to raise the issue of the release and exchange of our prisoners of war is the coordination headquarters for the treatment of prisoners of war.
"There has been no appeal from the Hungarian side to Ukraine that they are ready to join peace initiatives, that they are ready to facilitate the return of Ukrainian prisoners of war through their contacts," Lubinets said.
As a reminder, Hungary has confirmed the transfer of 11 Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russia.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry invited the Hungarian Chargé d'Affaires for a "substantive conversation" about the situation with Ukrainian prisoners of war. The Ukrainian government was not informed about the negotiations between Budapest and Moscow on the transfer of prisoners of war to Hungary.
Hungarian government claims that it knew nothing about this initiative.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry demands that the Ukrainian consul be immediately allowed to see the prisoners of war.
According to Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban is personally interested in the transfer of Ukrainian prisoners of war from Russia to Hungary.
So far, 3 out of 11 prisoners have been returned to Ukraine.
