US warned Russia about terrorist attack in "Crocus" - Washington Post

Two weeks before the attack, the US government informed Russian officials that Crocus City Hall was a potential terrorist target.

According to Censor.NET, this was reported in the Washington Post.

US officials noted that more than two weeks before the tragedy at the concert hall, Moscow received information that the venue could be the target of a terrorist attack.

"This raises the question of why the Russian authorities did not take more stringent measures to ensure the security of the place where the militants staged the tragedy that killed more than 140 people and set the building on fire," the newspaper said.

Islam Khalilov, a teenager who worked as a cloakroom attendant at the concert hall, helped people to evacuate from the building that night. In an interview, he said that the staff had been warned of a possible terrorist attack.

The second alleged target of the terrorists was a synagogue in the Russian capital. The very next day after receiving the warning, the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation announced that Islamic State militants' plans to attack a synagogue in Moscow had been prevented.

"The high level of specificity in the warning underscores Washington's belief that the Islamic State was preparing for an attack that threatened large numbers of civilians and directly contradicts Moscow's claims that the US warnings were too general to help prevent the attack," the newspaper notes.
