Defense measures will be strengthened in ports of Odesa region

Defense measures will be increased at seaports in the Odesa region, with a focus on personnel safety and infrastructure restoration.
According to Censor.NET, citing the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, this was stated by Oleksii Kuleba, Vice Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine, Minister of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, during a working visit to Odesa region.
"We are strengthening defense measures in every port. We are implementing additional actions that will increase the level of defense and security. It is also necessary to provide additional protection for the personnel of enterprises on the territory of the seaport, including the arrangement of mobile shelters. Additional funds will be allocated to restore the infrastructure of the Odesa port. In particular, this will include the modernization of key facilities and strengthening the overall security of the port areas," Kuleba said.
According to Kuleba, the stable operation of Ukrainian ports and the Ukrainian Sea Corridor is a guarantee of food stability in the world. Therefore, the safety of ports, personnel and vessels is a priority.
The Ministry also reported that 86 ships are currently waiting to enter the ports of Odesa, Chornomorsk and Pivdennyi, which are expected to export almost 2 million tons of cargo. In total, more than 2,800 vessels have called at the three ports since the launch of the Ukrainian Corridor, carrying products to more than 50 countries.
Russian strikes on the port infrastructure of the Odesa region
As a reminder, on the night of October 6, 2024, Russian troops attacked the Ukrainian port of Pivdennyi, damaging the civilian ship PARESA flying the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis.
In addition, on October 7, Russian invaders attacked Odesa with ballistic missiles. The enemy hit a Palau-flagged civilian ship. A 60-year-old Ukrainian was killed and five other foreign nationals were injured.
On the evening of October 9, Russian invaders once again attacked Odesa district with ballistic missiles. The attack killed 8 people.
