Trump: I will use US support for Ukraine as lever of pressure on Russia during peace talks
US President-elect Donald Trump said he wants to reach a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia and plans to put pressure on Russia.
Trump said this in an interview with Time, Censor.NET reports.
When asked whether he would "leave" Ukraine, Trump said he would use US support for Ukraine as leverage to pressure Russia in negotiations to end the war.
"I want to reach a deal, and the only way to reach a deal is to not back down," he stressed.
Earlier, Donald Trump said that he considered resolving the war in Ukraine a higher priority than the conflict in the Middle East.
Reuters reported that Trump, during a meeting with Emmanuel Macron and Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Paris, said he wanted talks to end the war quickly.
The White House said that Biden and Trump's teams are in contact about the war in Ukraine and events in Syria.
