EU is practically single-handedly keeping Ukraine afloat, - Ambassador Maternova

The EU is currently helping Ukraine fight alone: Maternova’s statement

The European Union has stood by Ukraine from the very first day of the war, providing public services and supporting its budget.

This was stated by the EU Ambassador to Ukraine, Katarina Maternová, in an interview with Censor.NET.

Details

"Let me put it this way: I can't speak for the whole world—but what I can say is that the European Union isn't just standing by and commenting. The European Union has been committed to Ukraine from day one.

The European Union is the entity that is practically single-handedly keeping Ukraine afloat. It provides public services and fills the budget. "Plus, thanks to a 90-billion loan, for the first time in history we are using the European Union’s budget for military spending—60 billion of that amount," the diplomat emphasized.

That is why Maternova believes that the EU not only comments on and supports the situation, but also helps Ukraine and supports it in very concrete ways.

"In addition, the expansion of sanctions against Russia, which was discussed today, along with all the diplomatic support, humanitarian aid, and so on—I believe this is a very concrete way to show solidarity with your country," the ambassador added.

Furthermore, according to Maternova, the world can see that Ukraine has its own cards to play and that Ukraine is not losing, as Russia claims.

What led up to it

  • On May 28, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy submitted a bill to the Verkhovna Rada on the ratification of an agreement with the EU regarding a 90-billion-euro loan.
