Murder of policeman in Vinnytsia region: Military who helped suspects escape to be tried. PHOTOS
Two soldiers who helped the men who attacked police officers in Vinnytsia region in April 2024 to escape will be brought to trial.
This was reported by the press service of the State Bureau of Investigation, Censor.NET reports.
On 20 April, after the attack on the police, the suspects decided to flee abroad and turned to two acquainted military men for help.
"One of them also had an unauthorized absence in Odesa region. Despite the fact that the whole country was aware that the father and son were wanted for the murder of a law enforcement officer, the defendants responded and decided to help the fugitives. In particular, one of them handed over a car for the escape abroad, and the other went to pick up passports and a mobile phone, which he later handed over to the attackers," the statement said.
On 24 April 2024, SBI officers detained one of the servicemen who facilitated the escape of the suspects and had prolonged AWOL.
He is accused of an unauthorised leaving the place of service (part 5 of Article 407 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He faces up to 10 years in prison.
Another soldier is accused of AWOL (Article 396(1) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), which carries a 3-year prison sentence.
Attack on police officers in the Vinnytsia region
On 20 April, at night in the Haisyn district of Vinnytsia region, police officers stopped an unknown car for inspection. There were two men in the car who opened fire on the police.
28th SMB named after Knights of the Winter Campaign Brigade denied media reports that the police officer who killed a policeman in the Vinnytsia region and the second attacker were allegedly members of the brigade. The Office of the Prosecutor General noted that the involvement of two servicemen in the crime is being checked.
Later, it became known that the video of the shooting of the police officer in the Vinnytsia region, which was spread in the media, showed soldiers from a military unit of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Also, law enforcement officers found the car in which the suspects in the police murder were travelling in the Vinnytsia region. On 21 April, the attackers were detained in the Odesa region.
On 22 April, two servicemen who staged a shooting incident in Vinnytsia region were served with notices of suspicion of murder and attempted murder of police officers, as well as desertion.
