The commander of the 211th Pontoon and Bridge Brigade, who covered up the abuse of soldiers, was detained and served a new suspicion notice.
This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the press centre of the Prosecutor General's Office.
As noted, under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General's Office, the commander of the 211th Pontoon Bridge Brigade of the Support Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was served a notice of suspicion on the fact of inaction by the military authorities committed under martial law or in a combat situation (Part 4 of Article 426 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
What did the investigation find?
According to the investigation, the suspect did not respond to the facts of inhuman treatment and torture of his subordinate soldiers. From February to July 2024, he knew that his subordinate platoon commander, exceeding his authority, was abusing subordinate soldiers. However, the brigade commander did not initiate the issue of bringing the officer to justice.
Law enforcement officers searched the brigade commander's place of residence. He is currently in custody, and the issue of choosing a measure of restraint is being decided.
Earlier, a platoon commander of the brigade was notified of suspicion of this brigade commander, who had abused the soldiers.
The pre-trial investigation is carried out by the State Bureau of Investigation.
According to the SBI, according to available information, the senior lieutenant who beat and tortured subordinate servicemen is the son of the chief of staff of the said military unit and is a close friend of the brigade commander.
What preceded this?
Earlier, Censor.NET reported that Vladyslav Pastukh, a soldier of the 211th Pontoon and Bridge Brigade, beat and mocked soldiers who drank alcohol but did not pay him money for not drawing up reports of violations.
The General Staff reported that following the publication of the article, the leadership was suspended, and a commission of the Military Service Commission was sent to the military unit.
It was also noted that law enforcement officers are investigating the alleged involvement of the commander of the 211th Pontoon Bridge Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the involvement of subordinates in the construction of a house in Khmelnytskyi region during their secondment to the combat zone.
The Main Inspectorate of the Ministry of Defence will verify the facts presented in the media about the abuse of servicemen of the 211th Pontoon Bridge Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
At the same time, Defence Ministry spokesperson Dmytro Lazutkin said that the ministry had not received any preliminary information about cases of bullying of servicemen of the 211th Pontoon and Bridge Brigade of the Armed Forces.
On 17 December, Ternopil police investigators served a notice of suspicion to the commander of the 211th Pontoon Bridge Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine of abuse of office.
The commander of the 211th Pontoon and Bridge Brigade was arrested and released on almost one million UAH bail.
The commander of the 211th Pontoon and Bridge Brigade, Oleh Poberezhniuk, was released on bail of UAH 908,400.
