Ukrainian goalkeeper Anatolii Trubin made his mark in world football history by becoming the hero of a dramatic match in the eighth round of the Champions League group stage. His Lisbon-based Benfica hosted Real Madrid and secured an epic 4-2 victory.

The biggest sensation came in the 90+8th minute when Trubin entered the opponent's penalty area and scored the decisive goal. This goal allowed Benfica to overtake their rivals in the standings on goal difference and secure a place in the playoffs.

The Ukrainian's historical records:

  • Fifth goalkeeper-scorer: Trubin became only the fifth goalkeeper in Champions League history to score a goal (after Hans-Jörg Butt, Sinan Bolat, Vincent Enyeama and Ivan Provedel).

Recognition from UEFA:
