Guterres asks Putin to preserve the "grain agreement"

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed regret over Russia’s withdrawal from the Black Sea Grain Initiative and called on Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to preserve the agreement.

He stated that he sent a letter to Putin with a new proposal regarding the preservation of the Black Sea Initiative.
"In this letter, which I consider necessary to quote, I emphasize that, quote, "since the signing of the memorandum of understanding, as well as taking into account the measures taken by the Russian Federation, Russian grain trade, as well as export volumes, and fertilizer markets have stabilized. Russian exports are approaching full recovery, as stated by the Russian Union of Grain Exporters and the Russian Association of Fertilizer Producers," he said.
"I deeply regret the decision of the Russian Federation to stop the implementation of the Black Sea Initiative, including the cancellation of Russian guarantees for the safety of navigation in the northwestern part of the Black Sea," Guterres added.
He reminded that the export of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea is extremely important for the food security of the world.
"This initiative ensures the safe passage of more than 32 million metric tons of food products from Ukrainian ports. And the World Food Program has sent more than 725,000 tons of humanitarian aid to support humanitarian operations," Guterres summarized.
The USA, the Netherlands and the European Commission have already condemned Russia's disruption of the agreement.
