Italy to withdraw from Trump’s "Peace Council"

Italian Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said that the country's accession to the "Peace Council" proposed by US President Donald Trump to govern the Gaza Strip is problematic and may violate the Italian constitution.
This was reported by Reuters, according to Censor.NET.
According to the minister, there are "some problems" with Italy's participation in the US president's initiative. He did not specify the details, but noted that the issue raises serious concerns.
The Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, citing sources, reported that Italy will not participate in the Peace Council. The publication notes that membership in this structure may violate the provisions of the country's constitution.
According to the Italian constitution, the state may join international organizations that ensure "peace and justice among nations" only "on equal terms with other states." According to Italian sources, this is incompatible with the dominant role of the US president in the proposed "Peace Council."
Donald Trump is expected to preside over the ceremony to establish the "Peace Council" on Thursday at the World Economic Forum in Davos. At the same time, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who has a warm relationship with the US president, is unlikely to attend the event.
According to the agency, about 60 countries have received invitations to join the "Peace Council." Only a few states have accepted without reservations, including Hungary, Azerbaijan, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and Pakistan.
