Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Anatolii Kutsevol, together with U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal and Sheldon Whitehouse, visited a combined heat and power plant in Kyiv damaged as a result of Russian attacks.

This was reported by the Ministry of Energy, Censor.NET informs.

Consequences of Russian strikes

During the visit, Kutsevol informed the American partners about the consequences of enemy strikes on the facility, which, prior to the shelling, had provided heat supply to more than 1,000 apartment buildings, as well as schools, kindergartens, hospitals and other social infrastructure facilities of the capital.

"The deliberate destruction of thermal generation is not only an attack on infrastructure, it is a crime against people. Strikes on combined heat and power plants mean cold in homes, halted hospitals and risks to civilian lives. Russia is deliberately using attacks on the energy sector as a weapon, seeking to deprive Ukrainians of basic living conditions," he stressed.

Kutsevol also thanked the United States for the humanitarian aid that has already arrived in Ukraine. As noted, Ukraine has received three shipments of humanitarian aid weighing a total of about 5 tonnes during this time.

The total amount of the US grant contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund is €35.5 million.

  • The Darnytskyi and Dniprovskyi districts are mostly without heat, and 1,170 high-rise buildings are not being heated.
  • Emergency power cuts have been introduced in part of the left bank of Kyiv.
  • In addition, Russia attacked the Odesa region, and critical infrastructure is now running on generators.
  • Shmyhal reported that Russia attacked eight regions, targeting thermal power plants and thermal power stations that provided heating in Kyiv, Kharkiv and Dnipro.
  • According to Mayor Vitalii Klytschko, it will take at least two months to restore the systems and equipment of the Darnytskyi thermal power plant after the Russian attack, provided there are no new strikes.
