The World Health Organization (WHO) has been actively monitoring and reporting on health emergencies across Ukraine and globally. Since the onset of the war in Ukraine in February 2022, WHO documented 1,940 attacks on the Ukrainian medical system by Russia, targeting over 900 healthcare facilities. In light of these challenges, WHO has had to adjust its operational bases, relocating its Moscow office to Copenhagen.

Additionally, the global health body has been pivotal in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic's challenges. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus emphasized the necessity for more transparency from China to understand the virus's origins better. Closer to home, Ukraine faces another severe winter, potentially displacing up to three million people due to harsh conditions, per WHO forecasts.

In a significant development for Ukraine on the international stage, the country was elected to the governing bodies of WHO, marking a pivotal step in influencing global health decisions. Amid these critical times, WHO continues to send aid and recommendations, such as prolonging quarantines and providing essential COVID-19 test kits and vaccines under the COVAX initiative, emphasizing the stretched yet resilient health framework in Ukraine.

Through ongoing updates and support, WHO is committed to addressing the health crises in Ukraine, while also handling global health emergencies, promising a focused and concerted effort towards better health governance and emergency responsiveness worldwide.
